Pain Relief for Arthritis and lameness in horses?
My little horse is 15 years old next month and has been lame (but working) for some time now. The vet can do nothing he is in need of good Chiropractor but we can’t find one.
He was working really well until last week and he took a backwards step. We ave tried everything for him, you name it we have tried it.
We can’t retire him, hes too intelligent and will get board very easily.
So were looking at alternatives, possibly using pain relief permanently, like bute (which I know is not good in the long run)
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar problem and what they have tried.
He is happy and healthy in himself – lame behind, high up in the hind quarters in the sacroiliac joint from an old bang rolling in a stable a few years back. To add to it, he has bog spavin’s in both hocks and minor arthritis.
I have used a product called EquiGesic XS from Blueridge. It is an anti-inflammatory, analgesic, blood purifier. I feel it is a safe & effective alternative to Bute & aspirin. It is organic, and doesn’t have the harmful side effects that Bute can cause.. I used it for several months on a horse that was very ill and had a lot of swelling. It seemed to really work.
