RA, could an injury trigger your rheumatoid arthritis ?

I developed RA synovial fluid buildup in my elbows within two months after an ankle injury. Although the doctors say it is a combination of having a susceptible gene and unknown causes, I think the ankle injury triggered RA in my case.

Did your RA develope after an injury?

Hey there
I suffer from RA and began medication as soon as i was diagnosed about a year ago. When being diagnosed I was constantly questioning my rheumatologist on what could have brought it on.
Of course he said it is hereditary and something like RA is in the body for years before it is triggered.
In relation to your actual question, i didn’t have an injury but i was doing my end of school exams (HSC in Australia) which meant endless essays in short periods of time, my hands and wrists would swell uncontrollably and i had had knee pains for ages so that’s what i think triggered it, but i do have a slight family history of it
There is also some rumours circulating that maybe the new cervical cancer vaccine (gardasil) could bring it on .. (only relevant if you’re a girl) :)
i hope that helps, all the best :)
