My 8 year old labrador has arthritis….?

We took her to the vet and they are going to give her treatments every week for 4 wks. She is going to be on medication for the rest of her life. Even though the meds will take the pain away, what are some other natural remedies to help her with it? She has arthritis in her elbow. Can you please help? And btw, has your dog ever suffered from arthritis?

I’m so glad that you have found out early enough to be able to start treatment. I also had a Lab x that had arthritis but in his back hips. We started putting him on Glycosamine tablets. Your vet can tell you the recommended daily dose for your dog. We also got him a firm mattress for his bed too, so that getting up in the morning was easier, the softer the bed, the harder it is to get up for them. You need to also make sure her weight stays low, as this helps to reduce the pain.

When he started getting stiffer as he got older, I would heat up a wheat pack and warm up the joints and then give them a gentle massage to help loosen them up so he could go to the toilet.

It can be hard at times, but our Max lived until he was 18 and a half. We had to put him to sleep in the end, as the arthritis took over and he had no feeling in his back legs, he started walking with his feet folded over. He had a good innings and I’m sure your beautiful girl will too.
