How to lose weight and stay fit with rheumatoid arthritis?
I was diagnosed a little over a year to ulcerative colitis, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis and now. I am only 25! My other conditions have reportedly gone into remission, but my arthritis seems to deteriorate. I take Humira and it helps tremendously. If I do not take it, I did have to use a crutch or a cane to walk. My problem is that Since my diagnosis, I became inactive and gained weight. I tried to do light exercise like walking, but it flares my knees and hips if bad that I find myself in bed for days. What can I do to lose 30 pounds I gained and try to live a healthier life activity?
My initial suggestion would be to try an elliptical machine for exercise, but if you encounter problems from simple walking, so I do not think this will help. My recommendation would be to take swimming lessons. It will help in reducing the accumulation of stress on your joints during exercise. Yoga is a good solution too. You can certainly tone the body and help stimulate blood flow to joints and muscles without causing too much strain. Regarding food, eat. Eliminate all sugars, wheat, gluten (found in bread and pasta), dairy products and anything that is processed. Eat lots of lean meat (Chicken and Turkey) and fish, vegatables, fruit in the morning. Nuts are good sources of protein and natural fats that your body needs. Bake, broil, or grill your food instead of frying. Remember to drink plenty of water.
