What can a painless swollen lymph node mean?

I’m 29 years old and for about the past 8 months I’ve had a painless swollen lymph node on the left side of my neck. About 6 months ago my doctor ordered an x-ray which looked normal. Also some bloodwork which ruled out a few things like thyroid problems and rheumatoid arthritis. I sort of blew it off for a while but recently went back to the doctor concerned because it hasn’t gone away. She now wants me to get a CT scan and more bloodwork. I am terrified, I’ve heard that this kind of thing can be a sign of cancer.

Yeah, it can be, but dont get ahead of yourself, it could be something silly like glandular fever, which yes it serious but not as worrying as cancer, dont dwell on it, just make sure you give all your symptoms to the doctor, and it you think you will not remember them all, write it down, its the only thing that will help them if you cant remember all of the symptoms, hope this helps, goodluck! :)
