The spinal injection of steroids with questions?
My doctor is going to be giving me an injection in my spine. It seems to focus on the pain I have. But my main concern is to use my legs back because of numbness and extreme weakness.I have already told him the pain is not my main problem, and my medication is working very well for this. (On the other specialist) I just want my legs back. There are some stenosis, arthritis, bulging disc, etc. My legs were numb for about two years. Is this type of injection to reduce swelling enough to relieve the numbness constant?
The focus of these injections is to help patients lead a more productive life without pain. The goal is to get patients back on their feet and off drugs cons pain. Many drugs against pain addictive and not good for you long term. Steroids help inflammation nerve, and could possibly help with your pain and possibly numbness. The injections combined with physical therapy program could help relieve inflammation and swelling. Each patient is different, and it is impossible to say how many injections might help. If you never had this procedure done before, I feel it is worth trying. You physical therapy to get your legs strong again, and your doctor must determine this is the right option for you. I have a condition called spondylolisthesis, which is a vertebra slips over another. In my case, I had compression L5 root for years. Years compression caused damage as possible. The injections helped me in part, but my numbness remained. I had a laminectomy and fusion in July (this year), and I'm always neurological symptoms, including numbness, burning, and weakness. It seems you should consult a neurosurgeon if you have not already. I give the injections to try and see how it works for you. Have different problems than I did. Good luck.
